Yayasan Tambuhak Sinta and Kalimantan Kids Club

Kalimantan, Indonesia

Yayasan Tambuhak Sinta (YTS) is a development foundation based in the Indonesian provinces of Kalimantan. These provinces have a small population, but are rich in natural resources, and it is inevitable that large-scale development will come. The foundation YTS is working to create conditions that will enable this development to be balanced, sustainable, and equitable. To this end YTS is collaborating with local communities and governments to strengthen their capacity to jointly manage the process of development.

Kalimantan Kids Club (KKC) supports needy children to pursue further education. The selection of students is based on the recommendations YTS receives from community members. Fifty students and more are helped each year, from high school and university. To date, the KKC has assisted around five hundred village kids to complete their higher education. Students in our partner villages usually find they must move to the city if they want to complete their higher education. They need assistance with basic needs like transportation and accommodation. The support KKC provides helps them cover these costs and tuition fees. Without this financial assistance, they would be unable to carry on their education to the next level.
In 2013, some of the beneficiaries took part in internship programs with KSK and YTS, while some others who had already graduated were hired as staff. The beneficiaries can give back to the community by sharing some acquired skills with young students of their village.

Kalimantan Kids Club is a program that SD Canada has been supporting for many years. We are currently helping 60 young people continue their education at high school and university levels.
