Community Health Centres

Democratic Republic of the Congo

In 2023, SD Canada has committed $3,000 to Kingantoko’s solar panels.

For the past ten years, SD Canada, with the help of the Buchan Family Fund, has supported the work of SDIA and SD Congo in building community health centers in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In addition to providing infrastructure and supporting community and government involvement in the delivery of health services, it is important to address the need for ongoing (on-the-job) training and oversight of administrative and medical teams. SD Canada is proud to support this important work, so necessary to improve maternal and child health.

New Solar Panels for Kingantoko

During the 2020 visit to the Congo, it was noticed that the solar panels at the Kingantoko Health Centre were not functional. SDIA contacted the EKI Foundation, Spain, recommended by SD Spain, and an agreement was signed: the foundation would supply and install solar panels and the necessary equipment at the Kingantoko Community Health Centre for around $32,000 payable over several years. SD Canada budgeted $3,000 to support this project which was initially partially financed by an earmarked donation from a Canadian member.

10 Years in the Congo: Changing and Saving Lives

This short film charts the history and progress of Susila Dharma Congo's work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, supported by the Buchan Family Foundation and other partners. It features the development of the Community Health Centres which have radically improved healthcare, transforming the lives of thousands of people in four communities.
A testament to just how far SD Congo's work has developed and progressed over the past 10 years and how many people it has impacted, the video is directed by Heinz Cadera with Virginia Hamida Thomas (SDIA Executive Director) and the support of the SD Congo team and many others (see full credits at the end).
