In 2023, SD Canada has committed $3,000 to the FUEGOS foundation.
The FUEGOS Foundation (Fundación para los Emprendimientos Gastronómicos / Foundation for Gastronomic Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Opportunities) is a civil society organization dedicated to aiding Ecuadorian and Latin American gastronomic enterprises through their focus on sustainable development and equitable social transformation.
In the San Vincent province of Manabí, Ecuador, the FUEGOS Foundation has embarked on an exciting new project to bring authentic and innovative cuisine to the area. Beginning as of April 19th, the team has opened the ICHE Culinary and Hospitality School, where students from 4 cantons of North Manabí receive training in the culinary arts and business management. Training is provided by foreign and local teachers, centering their pedagogy on the principles of environmental sustainability, entrepreneurship, and leadership. The project is financed by FIEDS (the Italian Ecuadorian Foundation for Sustainable Development), along with funding provided by SD Britain, SD USA, and SD Canada.
The organization is also currently working with 9 families from San Vincent to improve their food gardens. By offering training in nutrition, responsible consumption, and organic gardening techniques, FUEGOS helps these families grow healthier and more sustainable produce.
